How often should I raise my prices, and what do I actually say to my clients? š

I've been at the same price point for almost two years now, and with inflation, Iām basically taking a pay cut every month. I know I need to raise my rates, but I am terrified of losing my regulars or sounding greedy.
How often do y'all increase your prices? Is annually the absolute minimum? Also, please tell me exactly how much notice to give and how to word the announcement so I don't scare everyone away!

I do a small increase every single January! I usually just do a $5 or $10 bump depending on the service. Honestly most clients don't even blink an eye because they love you and want to support you!! I put a cute little sign on my station mirror and send a text blast via my booking app 4 weeks before it happens so nobody is surprised at the register! You got this!!

Post it on your booking site, text your list, and tell them during their consultation 4 weeks out. Keep the message simple: "Starting next month, my base rates will adjust by $10. Just wanted to let you know before you book your next session!" If a client leaves you over a $10 annual adjustment, they were looking for a discount, not a stylist.

honestly the grocery store doesn't give me a 30-day warning before they raise the price of eggs so don't beat yourself up too much about it lol. give them a month's notice out of courtesy and change the numbers. the ones who value you will stay

giving them 30 days notice is the perfect sweet spot because it feels super respectful and gives your regulars a chance to lock in one more appointment under the old price!
