Is offering makeup lessons a good revenue stream for MUAs?

im thinking about adding 1-on-1 makeup lessons to my service menu for the slower weekdays when I don't have event bookings. I was thinking of doing a "makeup bag makeover" where they bring their own stuff and I teach them how to use it plus recommend what to fill the gaps with. For the artists who offer this: is it actually a good revenue stream or do clients just get overwhelmed and not book again? How do you structure it and what do you charge?

It is literally my highest profit margin service because you aren’t dipping into your expensive kit products as much, especially if they bring their own bag! I charge $150 for a 90-minute "Everyday Glam" 1-on-1 session. I do half their face, and then make them do the other half themselves while I watch and correct their technique. If you just do the makeup for them, they won't learn anything and they’ll feel frustrated the next day. I also send them home with a face chart where I write down the exact steps we took and a product shopping list with my affiliate links. It fills up my Tuesday and Wednesday nights easily.

honestly it's good money but you gotta be patient lol. some of these clients don't even know how to hold a brush properly or what primer is for. if you get frustrated easily teaching basic stuff it might drive you crazy but monetarily? yeah it’s worth it. i did a "sip and glam" group class for 5 friends last month at $75 a head. they brought their own wine, i just showed them how to do a smokey eye. made $375 for two hours of hanging out and talking about eyeshadow

Yes. It's pure profit. I started targeting corporate women who just want to look polished for Zoom calls or presentations but feel intimidated by TikTok trends. I don't teach them cut creases or heavy baking. We focus entirely on skin prep, color correcting under-eyes, and finding the right nude lipstick. They have way more disposable income than teenagers and will gladly pay $200 for a private, judgmental-free lesson.

just make sure you don't call it a "lessons" and leave it at that. package it like an experience. call it "the ultimate vanity edit" or something fancy so it feels like a luxury service.
